Bad Math, Bad Shopping by X

People shopping sometimes find that they found a really bad deal. Today in school we all read an article on this subject of bad deals. Our math problem was to find which is better, a 24 oz. tub of peanut butter for 4 dollars or a 36 oz. tub of peanut butter for 8 dollars.

The way we solved the problem was we tried to find the LCM of 24 and 36. We first did the first 4 multiples of 24: 24 (for 4 dollars), 48 (for 8 dollars), 72 (for 12 dollars), and 96 (for 16 dollars). We next did the first 4 multiples of 36: 36 (for 8 dollars), 72 (for 16 dollars), 108 (for 24 dollars), and 144 (for 32 dollars). We saw that 72 was the LCM of 24 and 36.We then found that the 72 (24) oz. tub of peanut butter was 4 dollars less than the 72 (36) oz. tub of peanut butter.
